With so much worry about climate change, world wars, and a possible apocalypse, 2012 has kind of gone under the radar. However, many believe that all of these things are connected, and that December 21, 2012, will be the day that everything reaches its peak, leading to a rash of catastrophic events that will destroy our way of life and possibly lead to a mass extinction.

For those who are keeping a close eye on 2012, and even for those who believe that anything that happens won’t be because of the date, the question of survival is a pressing one. Is there any way for people to prepare for future? Is there anything that they can do to survive the 2012 apocalypse, whether it be caused by a passing planet’s (Nibiru, Eris, or Planet X) gravitational field, climate change incited by man, or a solar maximum that causes geomagnetic reversal?

We have seen in just the past few years that the world is not ready for many natural catastrophes - Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Ike, the Sumatra earthquake that caused a tsunami, unprecedented flooding and tornadoes, the Tambora volcano eruption. All of these natural disasters happened one at a time and were still devastating.

Panic caused chaos, and chaos led to even more loss of lives. Imagine what it would be like in 2012 if all of these things started happening one right after the other … or all at once. Imagine if our electrical grids turned off.

How many people in industrialized countries would be able to survive without someone giving them temperature control, hot and cold clean water, sewage handling, food stores? Or if our streets split and bridges collapsed? If buildings shattered and imploded?

The vision of an apocalyptic future is a terrifying one, and one for which this world is not prepared. Even if people are out of harm’s way in the 2012 year, they will feel the consequences of catastrophe - financial markets will crash, resources will become scarce, anarchy will become rampant, and wars will break out.

No matter whether you are in the middle of the proverbial storm or not, everyone will be negatively affected by global natural disasters. And it is clear that survival in 2012 will not be easy … and it may be impossible for many.

The government has only a limited system set up for human survival. There are talks of subterranean and even undersea operations that can hold vast numbers of people in order to preserve the species, but not nearly enough to house the world’s population.

At the very least, the government and the military will be housed in these places as well as a number of scientists, physicians, and other caregivers. Those chosen will not be able to bring along their families - the government will take only the people who are necessary. However, the average man on the street will likely be left to their own defenses, limited by their lack of survivalist technology.
